Background for tonight's presentation:
Matilija Dam no longer provides water storage or flood control benefits, and poses an increasing risk and liability to downstream communities on the Ventura River. The Dam Ecosystem Restoration Project is a watershed-scale program that includes major improvements to downstream infrastructure, including bridges, levees, and water supply. Although these improvements are designed to accommodate the increased sediment flows from dam removal, the impacts of the Thomas Fire and recent storms highlight the deficiencies in the existing infrastructure. Studies are underway to develop final plans, and funding has been secured for the first major project component, replacement of Santa Ana Bridge in Oak View.
